Since 2001, under the 8th Malaysia Plan, Ministry of Finance has entrusted INSPEN to be the coordinator for the disbursement of fund for real estate researches. This special grant, which is known as NAPREC Fund is under the management of the R&D Programme. Year 2002 marked a new frontier for INSPEN when the 1st International Real Estate Research Symposium (IRERS) was organised. This biennial event saw the successful organisation of the second and third of its series in 2004 , 2006 and 2008, whilst the fifth series IRERS was held in April 2010.
The main objective of R&D is to conduct research in real estate so that JPPH's credibility and professionalism will be enchanced and its inspiration to be the real estate resource centres for the country will materialise. The formulation of policies and circulars on researh activities were to encourage research in JPPH. Rebranding of Kumpulan Penyelidikan Jabatan & interest (KPJ) to 'Interest Group Research' was a strategy to develop higher caliber and dynamic researchers in INSPEN and JPPH. Gearing towards sharing of knowledge, product of research are published. They are for internal circulation as well as for sale.
